Leah was raised down the road in Spring City but moved to Oak Ridge in 2010 after marrying her husband, James. In 2009, she became a registered x-ray technologist and worked in that field until founding The Houndry in the fall of 2016. She has always been an animal lover and dreamed about playing with dogs all day. After lots of support from family and friends, she and her friend, Amanda Lovegrove, pursued their dream of opening a dog daycare. She has always been around dogs, from her childhood toy poodle to her current loves, a retired racing Greyhound named Lynsey, and a Cattledog mix named Roxy. She and her husband also have a tuxedo cat named Charlie. Leah is now working toward her Professional Animal Care Certification through the PACCC.
Amanda (and an uncooperative Daphne) - Owner
Amanda has lived in Oak Ridge since 2012. She has been in the dog daycare field since 2008, and previously worked at an animal clinic in Maryville in 2006. In 2008 she started at Pooch Hotel, a luxury boarding and daycare facility for dogs in Chicago. Amanda became the General Manager over their West Loop facility for a few years before she moved back to Tennessee in 2011. From there she started working at Barkside Lodge, a dog boarding and daycare facility in Lenoir City, and McArthur Animal Hospital in Oak Ridge. In 2016, she started up The Houndry with her friend, Leah, after years of planning and sketching her dream dog facility. She has certifications in Animal Care and Canine Water Therapy she received while in Chicago. She also paints pet portraits on the side and leads pet portrait painting in her Canines and Canvas classes. She became a mom in 2014 to a little girl who comes to work with her some days to watch the puppies play from her room (and alert us to any bugs found in The Houndry). She and her fiance' have four dogs (An Australian Shepherd mix, a Chihuahua, a Beagle, and a Hound mix), three cats, and a hermit crab.
